New Disney Dining and Mouse Frustration

OK, so I am planning my 2009 solo trip. I know that The Mouse has an uncanny ability to seperate you from your money but damn, pretty soon Disney Dining is just not going to be worth it. I have used ir for all but my first trip and found it to be a deal. First they eliminated the soup/salad option from table service which was fine since it was a ton of food. Then they upped the number of 2 credit signature places to eat. Now they have eliminated the 15% tip that was included in table service.

I personally don't do much counter service as I eat pretty healthy so my thing is good quality food places. Now I am wondering if DD will even be worth it by 2009 booking time. Any experiences with dining and lack of value?

Thanks!
Deirdre

We're off to Disney in two weeks - our first time. I am wondering if anyone could give us some tips about where to eat. The Disney website falls a little short here. Do we have to go out of the park if don't want to spend an arm and a leg? And what's a must with my son? (he's four) Do we really need to make reservations in advance?

Thanks!

Yay, we're goin' ta WDW next month!

Yay, we're goin' back to WDW next month! Stayin' at some timeshare resort week we got as a gift, hope it doesn't suck... but we got some days left on our flexpasses.

Being a grown-up, I find my favorite part now is walking through Epcot Center's World Showcase Lagoon at night. Last time, we waited until the very end of our vacation to do that, and we were so tired, and our feet hurt so much, we kind of zipped through it and spent more time resting on benches than actually viewing the attractions. This year, I think we need to do the WSL first and do the rest of the park after.

There's a WDW vacation planning feature on their website. I think I'll try that out and post here about how it works, if it works.

Child Dies On Epcot Ride

A 4-year-old boy on a family vacation died Monday afternoon after he passed out on a Disney World ride at Epcot Center.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on the Mission: SPACE ride, according to Disney officials. The ride spins passengers on a multi-armed centrifuge to simulate a launch into space. It exerts twice the normal force of gravity on occupants.

Who's been on this new Epcot attraction and what did you think of it?

I sort of wish that they didn't give away the "secret" to the ride's operation in the queue area - but I suppose that's part of an effort to avoid serious motion sickness. It sure gave me pause when I looked at those video screens!

My first WDW book is now in stores =)

Since there hasn't been any posts in months here, I thought I'd wake things up by pimping my new WDW guide book:

Frommer's Irreverent Guide to WDW, 5th edition is now in stores and also available at Amazon.com [ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0764572725/zengrrl-20 ].

It's a different from normal guidebooks in that it doesn't praise everything -- it's more like having a friend who knows the parks than a tourguide in a book, if you know what I mean.

It's cheap, too. LOL

If you pick one up, let me know what you think of it. =)

Oh, and my second book, WDW/Orlando For Dummies 2005, is due out in November. Amazon link => http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0764569430/zengrrl-20

Hi all...just joined the tribe. This past sept. I made my first solo trip to WDW. I was there a week all by myself and just had a ball. Really a different experience from going with family or friends (those trips are fun too, just in a different way.) Anyone else made a solo trip? And how was it?

Hello! Anyone heard of the Walt Disney World College Program? I recently got accepted for the Spring semester, I get to live at Disney World for 5 months and work there and take classes and meet lots of new people and network with cast members in my field (computer science) and... and... and... I'm very excited! I've never been to Disney World. I've been to Disney Land and just about every other amusment park in the country but not Disney World just yet. YEAH!

I was once a cast member. I worked for Walt Disney Attractions and Walt Disney Imagineering. I am a network engineer, and that's what I did for WDW. It was an awesome job, but I had to move out of Orlando to take care of my family back in Miami.

I now live in Utah. Too far from disney, but I'll make it there at least once a year!!
