New Disney Dining and Mouse Frustration

OK, so I am planning my 2009 solo trip. I know that The Mouse has an uncanny ability to seperate you from your money but damn, pretty soon Disney Dining is just not going to be worth it. I have used ir for all but my first trip and found it to be a deal. First they eliminated the soup/salad option from table service which was fine since it was a ton of food. Then they upped the number of 2 credit signature places to eat. Now they have eliminated the 15% tip that was included in table service.

I personally don't do much counter service as I eat pretty healthy so my thing is good quality food places. Now I am wondering if DD will even be worth it by 2009 booking time. Any experiences with dining and lack of value?

Thanks!

We have also seen the declining value of the Disney Dinning plan. I have purchased the Disney Dining Experiance for $60 (less $25) if your an annual passholder. disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/p...Detail

It gives you a 20% discount on food and drinks for up to 9 people. I find it makes up big for the changes in Disney Dining policy. We have found it's sometimes just better to purchase this then the whole dining plan depending if you ever eat outside the parks or resorts.

    Good luck.

I thought about this but since I live in CA I have to calculate the cost of an annual pass that I will only use that week + the $60 and how the 20% off will stack against the package (hotel/passes) and ala carte food. The 20% off booze is an incentive but don't know if it would be worth it.

I missed the CA part. That makes a big difference. We can usually get down to Disney two time a year so it makes the Annual Pass a great option. The Dining Experience made a big difference for us on our past two trips because we also had others join us for dinner. It made the cost for the wine and their meals much nicer.

Not sure if it helps but when my wife and I figure our finances for dining we use $70 dollars a day per person to justify choosing the plan or not. If we keep cost under the $70 dollar mark, then buying the plan is not as great. Over $70 dollars and it begins to pay off.

For a week, $70 by 5 days would look like $350. If you take 20%, you get about one day free or $70. The plan costs $60 for season pass members and $85 for non pass members (not sure if you can get other discounts another way). Forgeting the season pass you would only save about $70 for a cost of $85 so it does not sound worth it unless you plan more that the $70 per day we do. I have no idea but one other factor may be to see if this plan can be used at Disneyland as well. If youalso get there then it might make it a better offer.
